Wednesday's Wanderings --- Locations from Surrender the Wind

This old stone house is located in Virginia where Seth grew up. It is the perfect image of the house his father would have built out of mountain stone along the Potomac River. In the story, you will find this homestead settled in fields of wheat, nestled in grazing land for horses, banked by great trees. When Seth returns from the Revolution, imagine how he must have found it after the British ransacked it. Fortunately it was not burned to the ground like other homes.

What a neat house! Houses here in FL are so different in structure. I love that pic. ;-)

I know, Jessica. These old houses are full of history and atmosphere. Where I live in Maryland we have so many. Just drive through the countryside and you'll see houses going back to the American Revolution.

There are houses like that all over the county I live in in central Maryland, Kristin. Most of them are still lived in. The other day my husband and I went on a drive through some country roads and found an old stone foundation off the side of the road and a little family cemetery, one with a Civil War grave. The stone foundation was most likely from a little chapel since it was too small to be one for a house.
