For ambiance that reflects the era in which these novels were written, here's some music by that legendary composer of the 18th century, Mozart, and the soundtrack from the movie The Patriot.

Have a virtual glass of sparkling apple cider from McCutcheon's Apple Store, a locally owned shop in historic downtown Frederick, Maryland close to where I live.

Help yourself to a Cheesecake Cookie cupcake. Here's the recipe.

I'm off to make a salad here but I'll be dreaming of those cheesecake cookie cupcakes. Oh they look dangerous!

Rita Gerlach said...

Welcome, Debra! So good to see you. Thanks for coming by. Salad sounds great! I'm making one later.

Rita Gerlach said...

I first began writing this book back in the late 90s, and spent many hours at the library pouring over old books on historical accounts in central and western Maryland in the late 1700s. Amazing how much things changed in such a short period of time.

Diana Montgomery said...

Covers are just beautiful. Would love to own a autographed one. When did you begin writing?

Diana Montgomery said...

What do I need to do to get a autographed copy?

Mrs Tina said...

Afternoon Rita, lovely garden party. The cheesecakes look yummy, will have to try one later. Getting some lunch now, then sitting back and enjoying your garden party.
Love the cover of your book and thank you for the free kindle copy.

Cheesecake cookie cupcakes -yummy!
I would love an autographed copy, but don't know if you would send one to Wales?

Rita Gerlach said...

Hi Diana,

I began writing in the early 90s after attending a family reunion where my cousin, a famous romance writer with the initials NR, gave me one of her books. I read it and it sparked the desire to try my hand at the craft.

First I wrote a short novella, and I so fell in love with writing that I kept at it.

Boos Mum said...

Your books always have such beautiful covers. I very much would like to have an autographed one. I picked up on Kindle your new book and I have the print copy ordered and coming to me on Monday.

Send me your address and I'll get it out to you along with a lovely bookmark.

One of my readers requested the signed book covers and she sent me a message to say she printed them out and they came out so lovely she is framing them.

Here they are on my website. If you click on 'Print Preview' on your computer's tool bar, you can see how they will look.

I'm enjoying the music 'video'. An excellent choice to bookmark. I know you enjoy writing to just the right music as background.

Rita Gerlach said...

I'll try to respond to everyone. If I miss you, give me a swift virtual kick.

Rita Gerlach said...

I do, Debra. I listen to a lot of soundtracks when I'm writing, too.

linda said...

So looking forward to this new book!
Congratulations on the release. I trust it will go well for you. I really enjoy the historical themes you present, and I know lots of research went into them. Thank you!

Rita Gerlach said...

Thank you, Linda. The research was intriguing to say the least, especially the accounts I read of settlers in the area that face dangers such as Indian attacks. A war was ignited between Chief Logan and the whites when his family was brutally massacred. He was peace-loving all his life. But when this happened his heart was broken and he gutted his revenge.
The romance between John and Rebecah Nash are fictionalized, but like so many couples of that era, they faced situations we today could not imagine facing. Love, God, and family were the most important things in their lives.

That sounds like a great idea! Thanks

Rita Gerlach said...

I'm posting some music of the era, but one soundtrack that I love --- The Patriot. When I hear the first track, it makes me think of the scene in the book when Patriot John Nash first sees the lovely British Rebecah Brent.

More from the Dedication and from The Patriot Soundtrack -The Colonial Cause. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EotGv418Omk

Dedication

On the corner of Bentz and 2nd Streets across from the majestic stone Methodist church in the historic district of Frederick, Maryland, is a plot of ground where the remains of Revolutionary War patriots lay beneath green sod.

Their chiseled tombstones are buried with them, their names now unknown to those whose feet tread over them while visiting the War Memorial and the Ten Commandments Stone.

This book is dedicated to those brave patriots who fought for America’s liberty, whose names are written in the Book of Life.

Mrs Tina said...

Am enjoying the music--I like the Patriot too.

I am going to take a nap for awhile, will be back later....
Blessings, Tina

Rita Gerlach said...

You got it, Anne. You want one to into the paperback, am I right?

Rita Gerlach said...

I loved the Garden Party scenes in Downtown Abby. I could never afford to throw one on that scale! But I've always loved sitting out in the garden and having a meal with family and friends on the deck, especially on warm evenings. The mountains can be seen from where we live, and in the summer, the sun sets below them.

Rachel Muller said...

Rita, I didn't know it was online! lol This was a beautiful intro to the release of your novel! Just gorgeous! I'd love to find out more about getting a signed photo signature! Thanks for inviting me and best wishes on the sale of this new release! :)

I'm sending via email personalized book covers that can be printed and framed. I'd love to send you one. I just need your email address.

Rita Gerlach said...

I put up some garden photos I took last summer on the Garden Party page.
https://www.facebook.com/events/183479521802695/?context=create#

Let's sip our cold sparkling ciders and stroll around and take a look at the flowers.

In the book, my heroine Rebecah, builds the garden at Laurel Hill. There are daffodils growing wild in the hills that she promises to dig up and plant. But will she get the chance when danger comes pouring out of the woods?

Julia said...

Loving the music and i'm sure i will love the book. Thanks for doing this as it's one of my favorite things to do on FB interact with the writers.

Rita Gerlach said...

So glad you came by, Julia. Help yourself to a virtual glass of cold sparkling cider. And don't forget to grab a cupcake.

Rita Gerlach said...

The weather is beautiful in Maryland today. A refreshing breeze is blowing and the valley where the book takes place is in full bloom. There are variegated shades of green and blue on the blooming Catoctin Mountains. I'm looking at them right now. The field across the way was plowed the other day and the contrast of golden brown against spring greens up to pale blue sky and misty clouds, is so soothing to look at. Our God's creation is awesome. Take time today to soak it in.
