Wednesday's Wanderings ---- Locations from 'Surrender the Wind'.

Clovelly Harbor
On the coast of Devonshire

The Manor ~ Ten Width, which Seth Braxton inherits is not far from Clovelly, a historic fishing village on the cost of Devonshire, England.

The streets are cobbled, and there is no car traffic. To tour Clovelly, you have to walk. Tumbling down a 400 foot cliff,  there are age-old whitewashed cottages, gardens, and inns. What better place to be the nearby village to Ten Width than Clovelly?

Can you imagine spending a few nights at the Red Lion Hotel on the quay, taking in the sea air, and the tranquility of village life. I often wondered while writing Surrender the Wind, what it would be like to live in such a place, away from the hustle and bustle of life in Maryland.

I am not so fortunate as to have traveled to England to the locations in my novels. I can only dream and thank the Lord for the Internet. But I have explored all the places in my books near me, such as the Potomac River, Harper's Ferry, WV, Frederick, MD, Western Maryland, the Potomac River Walk, and Annapolis.

Have you traveled to the locations in your novels? Is there a place where you would love to visit from a favorite book?

This is a beautiful place. I'd love to visit there! But thankful for being transported there in your novel.

I'd love to go to Scotland or Nova Scotia for some novel research. I've visited some places in Maine for my research as well.

You've inspired me, Rita! What a wonderful post! Think I'll spend some time looking for some sites of my next novel. Can't wait to read yours!

Thanks, Ladies.

Carla, Liz Curtis Higgs' had a podcast yesterday and she spoke a bit about Scotland. She's been there 12 times. Lucky gal.

Laura, it is fun to explore the places in England. Do an image search for photos. This is helping me to envision my next series set in the Edwardian period.

But I have to finish the outline for book 3 in the Daughters of the Potomac Series beforehand. It is partially set in a gorgeous place in Derbyshire called The Hope Valley.

I found this site to day which was inspiring. I've no plans to set a book in Ireland but you never know. But just looking at the people in these photos made me wonder about their lives.

Most of my novels are set in Florida, so I do know the setting fairly well, but I love exploring other places too! I also love cobbled streets. *happy sigh*

Hi Rita -

Lovely pics! I live an hour and a half from where my novel is set. There's another area I'd like to tour, but it's further away and definitely not a day trip (Ohio).

Blessings,
Susan :)
